Whenever it's warm, it's time to hit the beach! But what would a trip to the beach be without a stylish, functional bag to carry all your necessities? Don't worry — you don't have to go out and buy a new beach bag. You can make one yourself that is just as stylish and much more unique. Here's how.
Gather your materials. To make your own beach bag, you will need fabric (1 yard of outdoor fabric or canvas), thread, scissors, measuring tape, pins, 1" wide webbing straps (30"), an iron, and a sewing machine.
Cut the fabric. First, measure and cut two pieces of fabric into rectangles that are 21” by 17” each. For best results, use sharp scissors and measure twice before cutting once! Then measure two pieces of webbing straps that are about 22” long each.
Fold in the edges of the fabric. Now fold in ¼” from all four sides of both pieces of fabric and press them with an iron so they stay in place while you sew them together later on.
Attach the straps at the top corners of each piece of fabric. Take one piece of webbing strap and place it at the top left corner on one side of the bag; pin it in place on three sides (top side facing down). Do this for both pieces of fabric – top left corner first then top right corner – making sure that both straps face inward when pinned together (towards the middle). Sew along these three sides using a straight stitch so that each strap is securely attached to its respective piece of fabric.
Remove pins when done sewing and turn both pieces inside out so that the straps are now facing outward from the center. Place each piece with its right sides facing each other then line up all four edges evenly before pinning them together again along all four sides excluding where you placed your straps earlier on - about 4 pins should do it! Sew around these four edges using a straight stitch then remove all pins when done sewing; turn bag inside out so that seams are now hidden within inner lining - congrats! You've just made your very own beach bag!
Making your own beach bag is not only easy but also fun! With some basic materials such as outdoor fabric or canvas, thread, measuring tape, pins and webbing straps, you can create something unique that will last you through many summer seasons ahead — perfect for carrying towels, sunscreen lotion bottles or any other beach essentials you may need during your day by the sea! So get creative this summer and make something special with your own two hands — happy crafting!
